Feb. 1, 2012 — A Quiet Start to the Month, but a Cold Front is on the Way

It will be another pleasant day of weather across the state.  February starts off with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, nice temperatures and mainly dry conditions.  Once again the far northwest could see a few mountain top flurries.

It still looks like Mother Nature will be bringing in a cold front on Thursday.  Scattered snow showers, clouds and colder temperatures will be found across the state tomorrow.

At the same time an area of low pressure will set up to the south of the state.  This low pressure system is the wild card in that, for now, it is still  up in the air as to where it will track  exactly and how long it will stay in the region.   However, the southeast and south central portions of the state will be impacted the most as to where and how fast or slow this area of low pressure moves.  A Winter Storm Watch has been posted for southeast Wyoming and the Sierra Madre, north Laramie and Snowy Ranges Thursday into Friday.   At this time it looks like Casper will be on the northern edge of most of the snow, however a few inches could accumulate in the city and on Casper Mountain especially Thursday night into Friday morning.  Most other areas of the state will see at least some light snowfall as well, with the northwest and north central portions of the state seeing greater accumulations.

Temperatures will cool off as well.  Highs in Casper will be in the the 40s today and then drop in to the 20s and 30s on Thursday and Friday.
