The next time Eric Clapton adds Cream's 'World of Pain' to his set list, it should take on a little extra added meaning.

ABC News reports that the legendary guitarist has been forced to cancel dates on his latest tour due to what's being described as "severe back pain," leaving would-be concertgoers in Vienna and Stuttgart to seek ticket refunds while he seeks medical care.

According to Clapton's PR team, he's currently seeing "specialists who will be able to better determine the course of treatment." The message goes on to say that "He was looking forward to these concerts and regrets that he is not to be able to perform for the fans. He would like to apologize for any inconveniences these cancellations may cause and would like to thank the fans for their understanding."

Refunds for the canceled shows are being offered at the place of purchase; meanwhile, the rest of Clapton's European tour, which was set to conclude next Wednesday in Prague, would seem to be up in the air while his doctors figure out what's ailing him. Fortunately, Clapton's itinerary is open following the scheduled Prague show, leaving him plenty of time to pursue a speedy recovery.
