Legendary comedian and actor, Eddie Murphy is trying his hand at music again. For those that don’t remember (or weren’t born yet), Eddie first tried his hand in the music industry with the 1985 Rick James assisted, Party All The Time. Although, the single has been the butt of many jokes, it did peak on the Billboard charts at the #2 spot.
Eddie’s latest offering entitled ‘Temporary’, which will be released on his upcoming album “9”, has more of a country-alternative-almost gospel feel to it. The video shows Murphy playing an acoustic guitar in a studio with a full band and back up singers.
Now unto the good and the bad.
The Good: I do like the melody of the song. It has an easy enough hook to get the masses to join along and his backup singers do an excellent job accompanying him, as do the musicians. Eddie also just sticks to the tune without trying to do to much. Admirable.
The Bad: Although I love the message in the song, he kinda lost me after saying: “When the river comes we will kiss your ass goodbye” on a song that otherwise sounds religious.
All in all, it’s a decent song, but I think as a whole, we’ll all probably agree, Eddie should stick to comedy.
