As much as I love the state of my birth (Wyoming if you're not following along), I do get a little homesick of the places I lived back east. It's not the weather. For the most part, it's not the people either. What I do miss is the food! There are several things I just can't get here and/or have a difficult time procuring. Gyros is a good example of this. There's only one place in Casper (that I know of) to get a gyros. You can get gyros and coney dogs just about on every corner in Michigan, and good ones at that!

Now there are things I can get here I can't get there, like Taco John's, Peaches and Taco Time, but that's about it. So here are my top 6 foods and/or food outlets I can't get in Wyoming (in no specific order).

1.) Rally's - Known for having great prices, gigantic portions and excellent tasting food, this is probably my favorite fast chain we don't have the pleasure of enjoying. Although you can purchase their fries in the frozen section at Wal-Mart, it's not the same. If you've never had Rally's (or Checkers... same place, different name depending on what coast you live on), Peaches would probably be the closest food equivalent, but not the same by any means. Believe it or not, Rally's fries are better.

2.) Steak 'n Shake - You have not lived until you've had a steakburger! Made from the best cut of beef, you can actually taste the difference. The best way to explain the atmosphere at a Steak 'n Shake would be that good ole downtown diner experience... only better. They are a little pricey, but what diner isn't? I'll tell you this, it's worth the price!!!

3.) Halo Burger - I know so far, these have all been burger joints, but there is something special about them all. Halo Burger made the list for one reason: they have a green olive burger!!! I don't know what it is out here, but almost no place in the state uses green olives... EVEN THE PIZZA RESTAURANTS!!! But we'll get into that later.

4.) Coney Conexion - This place should have been first on the list because this was the first place my mother took me when I moved to Flint, Michigan. Although I had tasted gyro meat before, never in pita and never with the delicious cucumber goat cheese sauce (which my mother didn't tell me what it was until AFTER I scarfed it down). Some of the best gyros and coney dogs I've ever had in my life. Their fries are also like Peaches, so awesome, and their burgers and wings are to die for as well.

5.) La Azteca - I have to say our Ponchos comes close, but not quite as good. La Azteca has the best regular tacos and homemade chips & salsa I've ever had in my life. They also have excellent prices. I measure all Mexican by how close it is to this place.

6.) Big John's Steak & Onion - This is the reason this list is 6 instead of 5. Big John's makes the best steak sub on the planet (except for maybe in Philly). You can add mushrooms, cheese, olives... my mouth is watering just thinking about it!!! Again, here is another place I can get green olives.

There are plenty of awesome places to eat here, but I still miss my other home and it's selection. If you are ever traveling east, especially northeast, remember these places. you'll be glad you did!

*With the exception of Old Chicago, why can't I get green olives on a pizza ANYWHERE in Casper?*
