Derek Trucks offered an emotional tribute to his uncle Butch Trucks, the late co-founding Allman Brothers Band drummer, during a performance in St. Louis last night by the Tedeschi Trucks Band. You can see the fan-shot video above and below from the Peabody Opera House.

The Tedeschi Trucks Band opened the show with the Allman Brothers Band standard "Statesboro Blues." They were joined by Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars, who opened the concert. Dickinson later sat in as Trucks, Susan Tedeschi and their 12-piece ensemble performed another Allmans classic, the instrumental "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed."

The St. Louis stop came just hours after news broke that Butch Trucks, a member of every different incarnation of the Allman Brothers Band from 1969-2014, had died at age 69. A cause of death has not been revealed.

Derek Trucks was a bandmate of his uncle's for 15 years, but now is focusing on the Tedeschi Trucks Band, who just announced their third annual Wheels of Soul Tour. Those dates also include the Wood Brothers and Hot Tuna, a Jefferson Airplane offshoot band formed in 1969 by Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen.

Cody Dickinson, also a member of the North Mississippi Allstars, was part of last night's Tedeschi Trucks Band update of Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" too. The Wheels of Soul Tour resumes in July.
