David Bowie’s people haven't said what kind of cancer he had, but a close friend of his says it was LIVER cancer.  Belgian theater director Ivo van Hove worked with Bowie on his stage musical "Lazarus".

He found out about it in November of 2014, when it was still in its early stages.  But even then, it was very serious.  Still, Bowie continued writing, even on his death bed.

Van Hove says "I saw a man fighting.  He fought like a lion and kept working like a lion through it all.  I had incredible respect for that."

David Bowie’s family will miss him, but financially, they'll be fine.  He left them about $197 MILLION.  One way he built that fortune was by selling what became known as BOWIE BONDS.

In 1997, Bowie basically sold off 10 years' worth of royalties for his first 25 albums in exchange for $55 million up front.  Yes, it's more complicated than that, but I don't understand financial stuff . . . I'm a DJ Jim,not an accountant.  (If you want detailed info, click here.)

It was a revolutionary concept at the time, and a few other artists copied it.  But nobody does it anymore, because music sales are so much lower than they were back then.

Even at 17, David showed his skills of manipulating the media in this classic video where he was protesting the treatment of longhairs.
