Cheyenne Regional Medical Center on Monday unveiled a new 39,000 square foot Emergency Department which is scheduled to officially open on October 28.

The new facility will include a mental health pod with four rooms, an acute care pod with 12 rooms and a critical care pod with 4 bays for adult traumas. Other features  include a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Room for victims of sexual assault, new family rooms to allow for privacy and several other rooms for medical examinations, equipment and treatment of mass casualties in case of disaster.

Tracy Garcia, the hospital's Clinical Director of Trauma and Emergency Services, says the new department should allow for quicker treatment of patients and less wait time for treatment. The new department cost $25 million to build, with equipment and furnishings costing roughly another $3 million.
