Ok lets come up with some cliches for the Wyoming Cowboys football team. Backs against the wall....must win situation....season on the brink....you can come up with your own. But beginning the season 0-3 today's game against the Idaho Vandals was...well a must win situation. And it took overtime for the out come to present itself to Wyoming fans. Overtime. And it was Brett Smith's fifth touchdown pass of the game, a 25-yarder to Jalen Claibore in overtime, that finally did the trick and lifted Wyoming past Idaho 40-37 on Saturday. This win would have been questionable had Smith not come back from injuries to play, completing 5 touchdown passes for 365 total passing yards. It was the Vandal's Trey Farquahar's extra point that made it 34-all. And then the Vandal's kicker did it again kicking a 49-yard field goal putting the Vandals ahead in overtime, but Smith and Claiborne pulled it out for the Cowboys to finally net their first victory of the season. Another sports cliche is "the game was ugly but a win is a win." And it is...the Cowboys have a mark in the win column. Next week the Pokes go back out on the road to match up against the Nevada Wolf Pack....their first conference game. Lets hope this one isn't a "barn burner" and  "ugly."
