Cowboys Lose Key Road Game.
To make a difference in the Mountain West Conference. To move up in the “real” standings in the Mountain West Conference you have to take care of business at home and then “break through” and win on the road. That’s a given. Hold court at home and break through on the road. So when it comes time for Tournament play in Vegas you get the best seed possible. That’s how it’s always been in one of the tougher basketball conferences in the country. Thursday night the University of Wyoming Cowboy Basketball team (15-3, 2-3) worked their buts off and came up a little short against the Running Rebels of Las Vegas Nevada (16-4, 3-2) losing 62-50. But it wasn’t for a lack of effort. Not at all.
Senior forward Leonard Washington (who ended up the night with 13 points and seven rebounds) and Sophomore forward Larry Nance Jr. (16 points and four rebounds) carried the load for the Cowboys, as the Cowboy guards were out played and out muscled by the Running Rebels more physical guards. I’m going to say it. The Cowboys really missed Luke Martinez. Wyoming’s 3 guard rotation was not enough to pick up the slack that the Cowboys needed to over come the physical and offensive movement of the Rebels.
And now the Pokes get to come home and play their second game in just two days after a hard fought road loss. Tomorrow (Saturday) the Cowboys will match up against the Air Force Academy Falcons (11-6, 2-2) in the Double AA, a team that has always been a thorn in the side of the Cowboys. Game can be heard on our sister station AM 1030 KTWO with pre-game at 7:30 pm, with Dave Walsh and Kevin McKinney providing us with the play by play and color galore. Go Pokes!!!
