Cowboys Basketball Renews Long Standing Rivalry

There is nothing in sports competition like a tough, nose to the grindstone, physical competition rivalry. Today, down in Fort Collins Colorado, one of the longest standing sports rivalry’s of the ages will renew it self in front of a sold out crowd.And today the University of Wyoming Cowboys are in desperate need of a victory.

The University of Wyoming Men’s Basketball team will jump on that little yellow buss and cross the Colorado Boarder to renew the Boarder War. Today will be the 217th meeting between the Pokes and Rams, which is Wyoming’s longest rivalry. UW has a 128-89 advantage in the all-time series, but trails 51-53 in Fort Collins.

The Cowboys fell to 15-5 overall and 2-5 in the MW after a close 63-59 loss to No. 20/22 New Mexico on Wednesday and currently sit eighth in the conference standings.The Pokes entered the week ranked first in the league and fifth nationally in scoring defense, allowing 54.8 points per game. UW’s opponents shoot 40 percent from the field and 33 percent from three. Offensively, the Cowboys score 63.0 points per game on 44 percent from the field and 33 percent beyond the arc. UW’s 6.9 threes per game are third in the MW, but the Pokes rank eighth in the MW in scoring offense. The Ram offense ranks third in the MW at 74.0 points per game on 44 percent from the field and 33 percent beyond the arc. CSU’s plus 14.0 scoring margin leads the MW and ranks 20th nationally. Defensively, the Rams allow 60.0 points for third in the MW on 38 percent and 31 percent, respectively, for opponents. CSU is one of the top rebounding teams in the NCAA, as its 42.3 rebounds leads the MW and its plus 13.7 rebounding margin leads the nation.
