Three teams that played in the NCAA tournament last March highlight the Wyoming Cowboys non-conference basketball schedule for 2016.

UW will play two NCAA teams at home, one on the road and a possible fourth in Las Vegas.

New men’s basketball head coach Allen Edwards said in a release from the university,

“We are excited that our schedule is now complete. We have some real quality, NCAA Tournament teams coming to Laramie, which will be great for our fans.”

Wyoming faces Northern Iowa in the Mountain West/Missouri Valley Challenge on Dec. 3 in the Arena-Auditorium. The Panthers won the Missouri Valley Tournament championship and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament earlier this year. They ended up with a 23-13 record last season.

The second NCAA tourney team to visit the Gem City will be 2016 Summit League Tournament champion South Dakota State on Nov. 19. The Jackrabbits went 26-8 overall and lost in the first round of the NCAA’s.

The third tournament team is California. The Pokes will travel to face the Golden Bears in Berkeley, CA on Nov. 25.

Another highlight is the Cowboys will host Cornell and Troy on Dec. 17 and Dec. 19, respectively in their first two games of the 2016 Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic. Their final two tilts in that tourney will be in Las Vegas on Dec. 22 and Dec. 23. UW will face DePaul on the 22nd and either USC or Missouri State the next day. USC went 21-13 and made in the NCAA’s, but lost in the first round to Providence.

There’s also home games against regional foes Denver and Montana, plus a road game against Pacific. In fact, the Pokes will play the Griz in a home-and-home series.

Edwards added, “I think our pre-conference schedule is good in the sense that it will prepare us well for our conference season.”

Game times and any television coverage will be announced at future dates.
