John Godina is one of the greatest athletes in Wyoming history. During his illustrious career, the Cheyenne shot putter won three World Championships, two Olympic Medals and one World Indoor Championship. Godina also set a Wyoming State Record that stood for nearly 30 years.

This weekend, Torrington High School Senior Logan Harris broke Godina's mark for the longest shot put in Wyoming history with a towering 63-foot, 8.5-inch throw; besting the previous record by over seven inches.

Whether or not Harris will follow in Godina's Olympic footsteps may depend on how well he performs on the gridiron. In the fall, the 6'3", 280 lb. lineman will play football at the University of Wyoming.

Harris is not planning to compete in track and field at UW; at least not yet. He told the Casper-Star Tribune that the Wyoming State Track and Field Championships would be the "last time I’m ever going to be throwing a shot put."

If things don't work out on the football field, Harris has a bright future in the shot put ring. Maybe he could even become Wyoming's next Olympic champion.
