A pair of returning Osprey were spotted cleaning their nest near Aspen, Colorado this past Monday. A new webcam installed about 20 feet from their nest is capturing a bird’s eye view of a nest and the eyes of hundreds of bird lovers. Pitkin County hopes to show live feeds of the raptors laying eggs, hatching their chicks and watching the young Osprey mature and eventually fly. Though one official said:

“the website might need to include a disclaimer because what happens in the nest isn’t always pleasant.”

People in the Roaring Fork Valley are excited about this new project in Emma, Colorado and as people find out about it, the hits are adding up from places far from Colorado.

The Aspen Daily News quoted assistant director of Pitkin County Open Space and Trails Gary Tennenbaum as saying:

“They come and go from the nest, so you never know when you’ll see one hanging out. One of our staffers saw one of the birds with a fish in its talons this morning.”

The live feed cost about $8,000 to install and should provide great free coverage for the approximate 2 months it will take for the raptors to take to the skies. You can find the live feed at pitkincounty.com/osprey
