A Mills man is accused of attacking his wife when he was under legal orders not to have any contact with her.

Clay Boatman has pleaded not guilty to one felony charge of kidnapping, two felony charges of aggravated assault and battery, three misdemeanor counts of domestic battery, and one misdemeanor count of strangulation of a household member.

Investigators with the Mills Police Department say in early-middle November 2016, they were informed by the Department of Family Services that when they did a welfare check on Boatman's wife, they noticed she had multiple bruises on her from a physical fight with her husband.

Police spotted Boatman at his residence and when asked if he knew where his wife was, he claimed he did not and was not allowed to see her, due to a non-contact order being in place.

Detectives found his wife next door, and when interviewed, she said that she and Boatman got into an argument about her talking with another guy while Boatman was in jail on an unrelated matter.

Boatman's wife then stated Boatman attacked her.

Then later she went to the bathroom to soak her wounds, and he entered and attacked again.

Boatman is being held on $100,000 bond awaiting trial, and could face between 20 years to life in prison on the kidnapping charge, and up to 10 years in prison on each of the aggravated assault charges if convicted.
