City of Casper to Stop Collecting Bill Payments From Grocery Store Drop Boxes

The middle of October will bring an end to the City of Casper's use of utility payment drop boxes located at Casper's grocery stores.

Three remaining drop boxes are set to be removed Oct. 15, following diminished use.

The City collected water bill payments from the wooden boxes for many years, and it used to be a common business practice. The boxes used to be divided into six compartments so folks could pay all their bills at the same location.

Several companies have stopped collecting payments from the drop boxes over the years, with Black Hills Energy ceasing use earlier this year. The boxes are now only used by the City of Casper and Rocky Mountain Power, with only about one percent of the City's water bills being paid at the drop boxes.

While the grocery store drop boxes have seen declining use, the drop boxes at City Hall see considerable use. The City and Rocky Mountain Power will continue to collect payments from the boxes at City Hall.
