Chris Tsangarides, the Grammy-nominated producer best known for his work with a variety of metal acts including Judas Priest, Anvil, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy, and Helloween, is on the mend after being placed into a medically induced coma.

Music Week reports that Tsangarides was admitted to the hospital two weeks ago after suffering symptoms of pneumonia, but he turned out to have Legionnaire's disease, a form of pneumonia that thrives in water or soil and tends to spread in confined areas -- like office buildings or hotels -- using large water tanks.

Although Legionnaire's tends to have a low fatality rate when it's caught quickly, complications can arise when antibiotic treatment is delayed, which seems to have been the case with Tsangarides; doctors were forced to perform a lung bypass and place him in a medical coma that lasted for 10 days. Happily, he seems to have responded well; Music Week's report says Tsangarides is "awake and talking, although [he] remains in intensive care."

Tsangarides' wife Jane looked at the bright side in her comments to the site, where she's quoted as saying, "We’re all so relieved that he’s on the mend, but so grateful to the medical teams that saved Chris’ life and all our friends from all over the world that have shown such amazing love and support for us. The recovery process will be long, but maybe now we’ll get the autobiography out of him that he’s been threatening to write for years."
