Those who went to a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs in Malibu, Calif., on Saturday night (Oct. 22) got to see one heck of a star-studded cover band. Its members included Chris Martin of Coldplay, Beck and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

A handful of attendees posted video from the event to social media -- including Smith, who referred to the group as "My new boy band" on Instagram. Pitchfork notes that the pickup group also featured Jakob Dylan of the Wallflowers, Roy Bittan of the E Street Band and Davide Rossi of Goldfrapp. You can see snippets of them playing Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb," Bruce Springsteen's "My Hometown" and the Beach Boys' "Surfin' U.S.A." below.

For both Martin and Smith, the evening was a chance to keep loose before they both begin a busy 2017. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are starting off the new year on the road, with a two-and-a-half-month tour of North America in support of their most recent album, The Getaway. Meanwhile, Coldplay have already announced that they will play stadiums around the world between June and October.

As for Beck, he's delivered a couple of singles, "Wow" and "Up All Night," from an album that had originally been slated to be released on Oct. 21, but it is believed that it will now be out at some point next month. He's said that the sound is going in a different direction from the sadder sounds of 2014's Morning Phase. “It’s a summer night, people have their hands up,” he said. “It’s a communal, celebratory thing. I wanted to take that into the studio, a kind of energy or joy. The thing that wakes you up a little bit.”
