Cheyenne firefighters will be out filling the boot for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) this Labor Day weekend.

Fill the Boot Coordinator Derek Pollnow says Cheyenne Firefighters raised $33,500 for the MDA last year and they hope to raise even more this year.

"We actually set our goal at $30,000, which was the goal last year," said Pollnow. "We sure didn't want to try to reach out more than we would normally do to our community while we're taking financial hardships, but we still want to get out and help those that are in need."

Seventy-seven percent of the money raised from the Fill the Boot campaign helps support the MDA's efforts to fund research, provide support services and pay for summer camp for kids affected by muscular dystrophy.

"The remaining percent is the operating cost for the MDA, but it is that large of a percentage that does go towards what we're raising money for," said Pollnow.

Pollnow says firefighters will be at several locations around Cheyenne, including all the major grocery stores.
