Major restaurant chains will cut menu items. IHOP, Olive Garden and even McDonald's will chop the menu and it's not why you think?

The menu's at major restaurants has been shrinking since 2008. One of the reasons for the cuts are costs and the other is tied to a change in the country's food culture: Americans are becoming a bit more refined in their tastes.

For that reason, as well as the fact that there were fewer restaurants then, there used to be a greater incentive for restaurants to serve as many food options as possible. That way, a customer could would choose a particular restaurant because it was near or convenient, rather than for a specific food craving. I know we choose a local restaurant because of the items we know and like and convenience.
