Cee Lo Green Defends Himself After Homophobic Tweet

Just a few weeks after Blake Shelton came under fire for using Twitter to voice some homophobic comments, one of his fellow judges on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ has done the same thing — and now Cee Lo Green has a PR problem of his own to deal with.

Responding to a negative review of his recent Minneapolis performance, Green questioned the critic’s judgment by writing, “People enjoyed last night! I’m guessing you’re gay? And my masculinity offended you? Well, f*** you!”

Green later deleted the tweet, but not before it caused a stir, and now he’s defending his comments by saying they were supposed to be…funny.

“At the time I didn’t even know what gender the person was,” Green insisted during a recent interview with Us Weekly. “I was being a little outspoken that night, a little outrageous. I always expect people to assume that everything I do is part of my character and sense of humor. I assumed that whoever it was would assume it was all in good fun. It wasn’t taken so well, apparently.”

Green went on to play the “some of my best friends are…” card, adding, “I’m one of the most liberal artists that I think you will ever meet, and I pride myself on that. Two of the remaining members that I have on my team on ‘The Voice’ are proud and outspokenly gay.”
