Casper police arrested a man for apparent methamphetamine-fueled attacks a man and woman at an apartment early Friday, according to an affidavit.

Christopher Durgin was charged Monday with four misdemeanors during his initial appearance in Natrona County District Court: reckless endangerment, battery, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and use of a controlled substance.

Durgin pleaded guilty to everything except possession of a controlled substance.

Circuit Court Judge Steven Brown, acting on the assistant district attorney's recommendation, ordered Durgin to undergo an addiction severity index (ASI) evaluation, and any possible sentence would be reviewed later.

He initially had been charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, and misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

There was no discussion in court about why the aggravated assault charges had been dropped.

Police responded to the parking lot of the CY Apartments where they saw Durgin after he had just been separated from fighting with a man and man and a woman, according to the affidavit filed in circuit court.

Durgin was screaming at the sky, yelling nonsensically about the Bible and demons, yelling at an officer, and then clenching his fist.

He rushed the officer, threw a haymaker punch and missed. The officer along with two other officers took Durgin to the ground, handcuffed him and put him in a patrol vehicle. Durgin continued yelling about demons.

According to the affidavit, a resident of the apartment told police he and a woman had been hanging out with Durgin, who he recently met. They went to sleep and he was awakened by Durgin who was attacking the woman about 6 a.m.

The man tried to stop the attack and call 911, Durgin punched him and he fell to the ground. Durgin then began hitting him with a snow shovel.

During again attacked the woman while rambling about "'god and the devil'" and stated he must sacrifice the woman, a statement for which he apologized. Durgin also was biting the woman in the neck as if to cut her jugular vein.

As the man tried to break up the fight, the woman escaped.

Durgin and the woman were taken to the Wyoming Medical Center where he was evaluated for his intoxication and she was treated for the bite marks on her neck.
