A Casper man has been charged with a felony count of strangulation of a household member and misdemeanor counts of domestic battery, property destruction and restraint.

Ronald Hager heard the charges against him in Natrona County Circuit Court on Thursday.

Judge Michael Patchen set his bond at $10,000, and ordered him to have no contact with the victim.

Hager will have a preliminary hearing within a few weeks to determine whether he will stand trial.

The case began Wednesday afternoon when police responded to a report of a family fight at an apartment on Blackmore Road, according to the police affidavit filed with the court.

Hager said he and his girlfriend had been arguing Tuesday and Wednesday morning because he was seeing other women.

The girlfriend wanted to leave, but Hager took her car key and demanded she give him her cell phone.

During this time, Hager was giving her bear hugs.

At at one point he forced her to the floor. She let him have the phone so she would let go. He then kicked her while she was laying in a fetal position.

He later smashed her phone.

Hager denied he hurt her in an interview with police.

The girlfriend also denied he injured her, but did tell police their relationship had a history of verbal and physical abuse.
