The Casper City Council has voted to accept former Congressman John Wold’s offer to put up $1 million to help develop hockey facilities at the Casper Events Center.

At its meeting Tuesday night, the Council voted 8-1 to accept the funds, with Councilman Keith Goodenough the lone dissenting vote.

Wold’s donation is expected to cover about half of the estimated $2.2 million price tag for installation of an ice rink at related equipment.

The offcer by the former U.S. Representative is contingent on the city meeting certain conditions by the end of the year.

Wold wants the city to approve a franchise and lease agreement with a professional hockey team, and agree to set aside the funding necessary to maintain the rink.
