Casper College Department Of Theatre And Dance Presents: “What Is Dance?”
What is dance? The Casper College Department of Theatre and Dance will examine dance in many forms during their spring dance concert.
“What is Dance” will take place March 27 through 29, and April 2, 3 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. On Friday, April 4 two performances will be given: one at 5:30 and the other at 8 p.m. In addition one Sunday performance will take place at 2 p.m.
The concert, choreographed and directed by Jodi Youmans-Jones, Casper College theatre dance instructor, will look at ”finding dance in unexpected places with not-your-average dancer, which can be wildly fun and thought provoking,” she said. “We all move during the day and experience different directions, pace, energy, and communication. Since dance is a culmination of energy and communication then we all dance. Dance can be everywhere, and all the time,” noted Youmans-Jones.
Joining Youmans-Jones on the production side of the curtain will be Kyle Melton, set and prop designer and two guest artists: Peter Jakubowski, lighting designer and Melissa Wayne, costume designer.
Jakubowski, an assistant professor production/design specialist for the University of Nevada Las Vegas Department of Dance, is no stranger to Casper College. Jakubowski created the lighting design for the last two dance concerts, “American Spirit” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” as well as the theatre productions of “Titanic, The Musical,” “Gypsy,” and “Godspell.” His work has been awarded the ARTIE Award for best lighting design, and he has been nominated five times for the F. Otto Haas award as well as recognized by both the City Paper and the Philadelphia Inquirer for excellence in design.
Wayne, who has been a costume designer for more than 30 years, is currently based in Philadelphia but her costuming work has been seen on Broadway, the New York City Ballet and the Goodman Theater. She has also art directed and designed for films and videos and been a guest lecturer at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
