Casper City Council will hold a special regular session at 3 p.m. Friday to interview the seven candidates who applied for the vacant council position in Ward II.

The council will conduct the public meeting in Council Chambers at City Hall, 200 N. David St., and it will be broadcast on cable channel 192.

The interviews will begin at 3 p.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m.

Council then will adjourn into executive session for deliberations. After the executive session ends, council will return to the special regular session to vote for the new council member.

These individuals applied for the Ward II vacancy and met the specified qualifications: Ken Bates, Lauri Gobble, Monte Henrie, Jr., Tim Kugler, Dallas Laird, Grace Niemitalo, and Paul Paad.

The deadline to apply was 5 p.m. Monday.

The position was vacated when Councilmember Todd Murphy resigned April 5. Murphy was elected in the November general election.

Ward II is generally located between South Poplar Street on the east and River West on the west.

Council members probably will ask questions about the candidates' backgrounds, why they want to serve on the city council, how their  qualifications can benefit the city, their willingness to run for re-election, and their ability to meet the time commitments of council and board meetings.
