Casperites be aware that the 2014 school year begins on Tuesday, September 2, which means drivers MUST SLOW DOWN IN SCHOOL ZONES (speed limit is 20 mph in school zones) and pay attention while driving in neighborhoods too. Some kids will be walking, some biking and some waiting at school bus stops.

Expect increased police patrols and stricter enforcement near and within school zones throughout the city of Casper starting Tuesday.

Sgt. Scott Jones, of the Casper Police Department told me, "the police department will be active in the school zones starting about 6:30 am daily." Also they will pay close attention to the crosswalks and to remember, "if a pedestrian is in any part of a crosswalk, they have the right of way."

There's construction ongoing at Natrona County High School that concerns the CPD and they ask that you be extremely careful when driving in that area.

Kids don't always pay attention to their surroundings, so it's up to motorist to be extra vigilant as the new school year begins.
