New and innovative technology generally is designed to make our lives easier. However the criminal mind can take those technologies and make our lives much more complex.

According to Dr. Samuel Stevens, Criminologist, car GPS systems are being used by criminals to take our stuff.

A couple of weeks ago in Dallas Texas, a couple had their car broken into while attending a football game. Their car was parked on the green which was adjacent to the football stadium and specially allotted for certain football fans when some on broke into the car. Some of the things stolen were a garage door remote, some cash, and the car's GPS system which was prominently mounted on the dash board. When the victims got home, they found that their house had been ransacked and just about everything worth anything had been stolen. The thieves had used the GPS to guide them to the house. They then used the garage door remote to gain access to the house. The thieves knew the owners were at the football game. The thieves knew what time the game was scheduled to end and so they knew how much time they had to clean out the house. They knew they even had the time to bring a truck to load the house's contents in. Something to consider if you have a GPS - don't put your home address in it. Put a nearby address (like a store or gas station) so you can still find your way home if you need to, but no one else would know where you live if your GPS is stolen. Protect your self with your own technology.
