Fire crews extinguished a fire at a small oil tank farm southwest of Wright on Friday, a Campbell County Fire Department official said.

The five units from the department responded to the report of the fire at a storage tank battery about 10:15 a.m., put it out and cleared the area by early afternoon, training Chief Ron Smith said.

There were no injuries, Smith said.

The tank battery had six or seven tanks that can hold about 400 barrels, he said. A barrel is 42 gallons. It was unknown how much oil was in the tank or tanks affected by the fire, he added.

Smith did not know the name of the company that owns the tanks.

The location of the fire was 4.5 miles west of Pinetree Junction, where Wyoming highways 50 and 387 intersect, Smith said.

Fighting a fire like this can be done by shutting off valves, closing hatches to smother the blaze, or using a foam, he said.

The fire remains under investigation, Smith said.

He also cautioned there are erroneous reports that the fire was an explosion at a rig.
