The majority of the rain came in the black of night, and it kept coming.

In Broomfield, the flood waters destroyed roads. In Commerce City, major flooding forced evacuations. Near Lyons, 5 dams had water going over their tops. But it was in Boulder that has now received more than 7 inches of rain, that the flood waters damaged bridges, buildings and roads. CU campus buildings were damaged and classes were canceled. Except for services, the city is shut down.

As daylight came the extent of the damage became evident. The National Guard is on scene, people were instructed to stay home and let responders do their work. They’ll have a lot of it to do. 3 people have died and the destruction will be a long time in repair. Prayers for our neighbors to the south.

The forecast calls for more rain this afternoon and this evening and will likely get heavy at times. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from Pueblo all the way up the Front Range until midnight.
