OTTAWA (AP) — The Boston Bruins are within one point of Montreal for first place in the NHL’s Eastern Conference with three games in hand.
The Bruins inched closer to the top spot by defeating Ottawa 3-2 in a shootout. Patrice Bergeron (pah-TREES’ BEHR’-zhur-ahn) and David Krejci (KRAY’-chee) each had shootout goals to help Boston improve to 17-3-3.
Ottawa led 2-0 before Shawn Thornton and Daniel Paille (PY’-ay) hit the twine for the B’s.
The Los Angeles Kings were 3-1 winners over Calgary in Monday’s other NHL game. Dustin Brown and Jarrett Stoll scored in the first 9:40 of the game before Brown added an empty-netter. Jonathan Quick turned back 23 shots and was perfect until Mikael Backlund scored with 5:22 remaining.
