Broncos Center Placed On Injured Reserve [VIDEO]
Broncos center J.D. Walton has been placed on Injured Reserve with a fractured left ankle.
It’s a move that will end his season. I found a video that let’s us get a little more background on a player that will likely be missed for the next 6-7 months.
Walton’s roster spot was filled with middle linebacker Joe Mays, who returns from the one-game suspension he received for his hit to the helmet of Houston quarterback Matt Schaub on Sept. 23rd.
The Broncos also welcomed Virgil Green back from his four-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancement policy. Green does not have to be formally activated to the 53-man roster until Saturday, when the Broncos travel to New England to play the Patriots.
Walton will be replaced as the starting center by Dan Koppen, who was a clutch sign by the Broncos’ front office three weeks ago. Koppen had played the previous nine seasons with the Patriots.
Oddly, Koppen’s first start for the Broncos will be against his former team Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
“He brings top-notch experience to this position,” Fox said of Koppen. “We had an opportunity to sign him and we did and I’m glad we did.”
The Broncos reached the quarter mark with a 2-2 record — not bad considering their two defeats were to 4-0 Atlanta and Houston, but disappoining in that three of the four games were at home.
“Our goal was 3-1,” Fox said. “We were short of that. It’s real important the next quarter because three of our four games are on the road.”
