The Denver-based franchisee of multiple Golden Corral locations in Wyoming says it has voluntarily closed its Casper location after 167 customers reported severe gastrointestinal problems and Norovirus-like symptoms over a weeklong period.

Golden DBL Inc. made the decision to temporarily close the facility shortly after 11:00 a.m. Thursday.

In a press release, the franchisee said it closed the facility “out of an abundance of caution” to ensure the restaurant “is free of any potential contamination.”

Casper-Natrona County Public Health Department director Robert Harrington favors the decision.

“We looked over their proposed cleaning plans and agreed with them,” Harrington said. “They will be spending the night cleaning the building from the ceiling to the floor.”

Golden DBL Inc. plans to reopen the restaurant Friday.
