UPDATE 5:44 p.m. Thursday: Casper Police have allowed Westshore Mobile Home Park residents to return to their homes. After a sweep of the area, no additional suspected explosive devices were found by authorities.

UPDATE 4:37 p.m. Thursday: It was a scary moment for residents of a Casper mobile home park Thursday afternoon.

Casper Police were called to the 500 block of Westshore Rd. at around noon Thursday after Department of Criminal Investigation officials found a device similar to a pipe bomb in a residence while serving a search warrant.

Sgt. Shane Chaney, who’s with the Casper Police Department, says the device has been removed from the neighborhood and is in DCI’s possession.

“The task force officers were executing a search warrant, and, when they were putting their paperwork down, they noticed the device and called for the bomb tech team,” Chaney said.

Chaney says an arrest was made at the residence. He, however, would not comment on the charges that were made, nor would he comment on whether the arrest was connected with the construction of the suspected explosive device.

Chaney says he doesn’t believe there’s an immediate threat for residents of the mobile home park, but residents will not be allowed to return to their homes until a full sweep of the area is completed by a bomb squad.

Casper Police, along with Fire-EMS crews and officials with the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a possible explosive device in a mobile home park.

Several residents of the Westshore Mobile Home Park have been evacuated as a precaution. Initial reports indicate the device is a suspected pipe bomb, but authorities have not confirmed any details.

We will have the latest information as it becomes available.
