Just when Casper couldn't impress me anymore, they go and do it again by setting the world record for the largest potluck...ever! On February 26, 2012 980 people prepared and served 861 dishes, beating out the previous record of 808.
I'm reminded of how proud I am of my town, and the people that live in it, when I witness events like Bowl For Jason's Friends. People from all over Casper offer their time, money, and mad bowling skills to the Jason's Friends Foundation, an organization created to help families financially, and emotionally, when they have a sick child.
Another day, another successful event at the Casper Events Center. This time, it was the 2012 Wyoming State Wrestling Championship. Teams from all across Wyoming ventured into Casper to fight like the gladiators that they are while wearing extremely tight-fitting spandex. Evidently, people love to watch this stuff, which is why the Events Center was nearly packed to the rafters with fans and fellow students, all showing their support for their hometown team!
KW and NC fans gathered in droves to witness the Peach Basket, and these pictures are but a glimpse into the mass of humanity that gathered at the T-Bird Gym on Thursday.
If there is one way to combat the cold that comes with Winter winds, it's by downing over 40 different kinds of chili at the 2012 API Chili Cookoff. Vendors came, saw, and attempted to conquer each other's chili recipe and we the public were able to sample the best chili from all over. The contest was between the vendors, but we were the real winners. Check out these pictures from the event!
What better way to spend a brisk February morning than by jumping into a freezing swimming pool to raise money for Special Olympics Wyoming? Well, you're right. There is no better way. This is why people from all over Casper came together, put on their craziest costumes and jumped right into helping out this phenomenal cause. Check out these pictures from the event!
With the contest over, and the winners selected, there was only one thing left to do in the 'Shot Through The Heart' contest: Shoot things. And that's exactly what these three beautiful-yet-bitter young women did. As the cocked their guns and focused on their memories, one could almost feel the vindication being released as the bullet fired from the numerous firearms.
Johnny Cash is one of the most powerful singer/song-writers that has ever lived. The live that he lived, and the stories that he's told via his music, are beautiful. He had quite the journey, and that's why his cover of Nine Inch Nail's 'Hurt' is so magnetic and poignant. He didn't write the song, but you know he means every word that he sings. And you can tell by looking into his eyes that there's something inside of the man that, in his final days, he was trying to get out.
I'm not sure why this is so intriguing, but it sort of blows my mind. This girl can say any word backwards. She's a freak. I wish I was there, because I would tell her to say Racecar backwards. She'd be confused!
I may be one of Michael Jackson's biggest fans. Even in the midst of all of his courtroom drama, I stood by his side (metaphorically) and preached his innocence. When he died, I cried. I went to the opening night of This Is It, and sat by myself, and cried throughout the whole thing...Then I shot guns and whiskey, to reclaim my manhood.
The Lost Boys is one of my favorite 80's movies ever. It's one of those films that really captures a time period. The movie is awesome, but the soundtrack may be even better. 'Cry Little Sister,' by Gerard McMann is one of the creepiest, most haunting, most beautiful songs I've ever heard, and it fit perfectly with the movie. Evidently, Seasons After felt the same way, as they covered the song and also paid tribute to the movie with their music video.
Simon and Garfunkel are one of my favorite bands. I grew up listening to them, because my parents loved them. Now that I'm a grown man, I still love them, and "Mrs. Robinson" is still one of my favorite songs of all time. So when I heard that The Lemonheads did a cover of it, I wanted to hate it. I really really wanted to hate it. But then I heard it. And I couldn't. While not as...sweet...as the original, The Lemonheads bring a new energy to the song that you can't help but want to rock out to.
