Netflix to Officially Begin Streaming New Disney Films in September

Way back in 2012 (or at least it feels way back), Netflix and Disney struck a deal for all of Disney’s movies — including Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm — to stream exclusively on Netflix Instant. According to the terms of their agreement, the deal wouldn’t kick in until 2016, which just so happens to be the year in which we are currently living. As announced today, Netflix will officially begin streaming Disney films in September, but that doesn’t mean the studio’s entire library will magically appear in your Instant browser.

‘The Dark Tower’ Set Photos Reveal First Look at Idris Elba’s Gunslinger

Ask any Dark Tower fan about their hopes for a big screen adaptation, and they’ll all tell you the same thing: “I’ll believe it when I see it.” Even then, most of us refuse to believe it’s actually happening until we’re sitting in a theater and the Dark Tower title card appears on screen. Well, we’re definitely a big step closer to that dream becoming a reality, as new set photos from the Stephen King adaptation reveal Idris Elba in full Gunslinger dress, sandalwood grips and all.

Andre the Giant Biopic in the Works Based on Wrestler’s Graphic Novel Biography

A biography told in graphic novel form is far from typical, but then again, so was Andre Roussimoff, the pro-wrestling legend better known to fans as Andre the Giant. The 2015 graphic novel Andre the Giant: Closer to Heaven will serve as the inspiration for the late wrestler’s big screen biopic, with his daughter Robin Christensen-Roussimoff serving as consultant on the project.

Director Lee Daniels Exits Long-Developing Richard Pryor Biopic

A biopic based on the life of the late, great Richard Pryor has been in the works for years, only recently making some legitimate progress with the hiring of director Lee Daniels and actor Mike Epps — who landed the role of the iconic comedian following an exhaustive casting search. But the project has taken a bit of a stumble, as Daniels has been forced to exit the biopic, which is now in need of a new director (again).

Tom Cruise‘s ‘The Mummy’ Summons ‘People v O.J. Simpson’ Star Courtney B. Vance

There were many great performances in American Crime Story: The People v O.J. Simpson, and Courtney B. Vance’s portrayal of defense attorney Johnnie Cochran was one of the absolute best (to say nothing of fellow MVPs Sarah Paulson and Sterling K. Brown). It looks like critics and audiences weren’t the only fans of Vance’s work on the series, as the actor is making a pretty big leap to the big screen, joining Tom Cruise in Alex Kurtzman’s reboot of The Mummy.

‘Pete’s Dragon’ Reveals First Look Pete’s Imaginary Dragon Friend

The first poster merely hinted at the titular star of Pete’s Dragon (no, not Pete – the other thing), shown bashfully hiding behind a tree. The first trailer for the upcoming remake from director David Lowery similarly exercised some restraint in showing the friendly dragon, with Disney presumably hoping to hold back on the reveal for a little while longer. The time has officially come for our first look at the dragon of Pete’s Dragon, whose name is Elliott, by the way.

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart Might Make You Want to See That ‘Jumanji’ Remake

First announced last year, the remake / reboot of Jumanji based on the classic book-turned-adventure film starring Robin Williams seemed like a baffling idea. What could possibly make the average movie-goer excited about this remake? A great cast, for starters, and it looks like we might get just that as everyone’s new favorite odd comedic coupling are in talks to star in the new Jumanji movie.

‘Batman vs. Superman’ Breaks a Bunch of Opening Records With $424 Million Worldwide

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had quite the weekend — not only did it break the March opening record previously held by The Hunger Games, but with $424 million worldwide, Zack Snyder’s epic now boasts the highest opening weekend for a Warner Bros. superhero movie. All those negative reviews predictably had zero effect on audiences, who flocked to see the long-awaited showdown between the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel.

Wonder Woman Isn’t Enough to Save ‘Batman vs. Superman’s Women From Injustice

Even before the early reviews began rolling in, the trailers solidified Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman as the most exciting attraction in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Audiences agreed, as Wonder Woman — whose name isn’t even in the title of the film — ranked highest in a recent poll that asked fans which character they were most eager to see in Zack Snyder’s superhero epic. As predicted, Gadot’s debut is definitely the best thing in Batman v Superman, and although her part only makes up about seven minutes of the film’s 150-minute runtime, those few minutes are riveting — but not enough to justify Snyder’s unfortunate treatment of the remaining female characters.

‘Kingsman 2’ Wants Halle Berry to Run the CIA, Possibly in Two Films

Matthew Vaughn’s sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service is shaping up to be one of our most anticipated films of 2017: The director has begun assembling a pretty cool cast, with Julianne Moore as Kingsman 2's main villain opposite returning star Taron Egerton. While we wait to find out if (and how) Colin Firth will return, the film is looking to secure another great addition, with Halle Berry in talks to play a key role.
