Authorities have arrested two people they believe are responsible for starting a fire at Guernsey State Park earlier this month that resulted in the evacuation of several hundred park visitors, and consumed nearly 2,700 acres. Thirty-six-year-old Thomas Pierson and 36-year-old Stephanie Schultz of Torrington were jailed in Platte County, awaiting arraignment on third-degree arson charges.

Investigators believe the two sparked the blaze with a campfire that got out of control. At the time of the June 9th fire, the park was under a fire ban. The fire forced the closure of the state park, which reopened on the 18th.
