April 24, 2012 — Another Very Warm Day; Cooler Later This Week

It will be unseasonably warm across Wyoming today.  Temperatures will be well above average and range from the upper 60s and low 70s in the higher elevations to near 90 on some portions of the eastern plains.  Casper will see highs in the 80s today.

There may be a few stray thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening, but they will likely produce more lightning and wind than measurable precipitation.  Speaking of the wind, it will increase in eastern and southern counties today.  West to northwest winds will gust to 35 mph in some areas.  This wind, well above average temperatures and low relative humidity is increasing the fire danger.  A Red Flag Warning has been posted for southeast and east central Wyoming through 7pm this evening.

On Wednesday and Thursday the ridge of high pressure overhead will start to break down, so temperatures are not expected to be as warm.  There will also be more atmospheric moisture to work with, making for better chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms.  So far it looks like northern and western areas will be in the best position for precipitation.  Casper may see a few isolated thunderstorms as well.  Daytime highs tomorrow and Thursday will be in the 70s.
