Two men who each allegedly robbed banks in Douglas and Evansville this week formally heard the charges against them in federal court on Friday.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Shickich told Charles Mathis Jr., of Cheyenne, and Kemp Cravens of Casper they are charged with one count each of bank robbery.

The judge said if they are convicted they face up to 20 years imprisonment.

Mathis and Cravens are in custody and the court will hold a detention hearing in the next week to determine whether they will remain detained.

Their arraignments will be set later when they will plead guilty or not guilty.

Mathis is accused of driving to Douglas on Monday, entering the Points West Community Bank, and showing a teller a note saying he had a gun.

The teller gave him $4,300.

He drove away in a car that had a Global Positioning System device on it, and he was arrested a short time later on Interstate 25.

Cravens is accused of driving a van to the Platte Valley Bank in Evansville, wearing a hoodie and a cloth covering his face, and showing tellers he had a handgun.

Tellers gave him $12,000 in cash.

Law enforcement learned cravens had rented the van and with that information contacted his wife.

His wife called him and he told her he had robbed the bank.

He surrendered to police later Tuesday.
