A Detroit man whose burglary of a Casper house led to federal firearms crimes charges will spend more than a dozen years behind bars, according to U.S. District Court records.

Adarus Greenway, 29, was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Freudenthal on Wednesday to 12 years, three months imprisonment, to be followed by five years probation for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.

A federal grand jury indicted him in September, which marked the next phase of a case that began in mid-March 2015 when Greenway and three others were arrested after a burglary of a residence on Pennsylvania Street in Casper.

Missing items included a pistol, prescription medicines, computers, checkbooks and watches, according to court records. Police later arrested the defendants including Greenway and an unidentified juvenile in Casper.

Greenway was charged with aggravated burglary and conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary. His bond then was set at $100,000.

The state dropped its case when federal prosecutors took over and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case.

The grand jury then handed down the two-count indictment.

Greenway, who already had a felony record, possessed a Taurus PT740, 40-caliber pistol, and a Glock 23, .40-caliber pistol.

In the second count, Greenway used and carried a firearm while possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Freudenthal sentenced him to seven years, three months on the first count, and five years on the second count.

This time will be served along with a prison term in Wyoming.
