Allman Brothers Band guitarist Derek Trucks beat out two of his bandmates to win the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Blues Album this afternoon. He is receiving the honor as part of the Tedeschi Trucks Band for their 2011 album ‘Revelator.’

His fellow ABB guitarist Warren Haynes was also up for the award, as was band founder, keyboardist and vocalist Gregg Allman. (If we were Trucks, we’d ease off on any celebration dances in deference to his boss Allman.)

Luckily, none of the Allman Brothers are going home empty-handed tonight, as the group will receive a special lifetime achievement award from the organization as well.

The Tedeschi Trucks band is an expansive 11-piece group co-fronted by Trucks and his guitarist-singer wife, Susan Tedeschi, who have earned raves for the soulful rhythm & blues-influenced rock of ‘Revelator,’ their debut album.

The Allman Brothers will kick off their annual and highly anticipated run of New York City Beacon Theater tour dates on March 9.
