One of the best places in The United States to find a job could be right here in Wyoming, according to a recent Zippia The Career Expert Unfortunately, these studies are often compiled and released without including the most up-to-date information. We decided to not include the towns recently hit by layoffs, but also include a little context.

What’s not working in Wyoming? People. Many U.S. coal companies have filed for bankruptcy and are going out of business. Oil and gas rigs are shutting down, trains are sitting on sidings with nothing to haul and many insular and support businesses are feeling the pinch and laying off workers or shutting down.

“This is partly the result of Obama Administration policies designed to combat climate change, by shifting power-production away from carbon-intensive coal. It's also the result of the fracking boom, which has led to a sharp drop in the price of natural gas. Together, these forces have put coal at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to turning on our lights and powering our factories. A decade and a half ago, more than half the electricity in the U.S. was produced by burning coal. Today that's shrunk to less than a third, and coal continues to lose market share to natural gas and renewable sources of power.” According to NPR.

Will that change? It depends in large part on the upcoming election. Presumptive Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was at a town hall meeting in Columbus, Ohio last March and told the audience "We're going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business."

In the meantime, a lot of Wyomingites are out of work and in need of jobs. Here in Wyoming, Zippia The Career Expert, has crunched some data and has come up with the best places in Wyoming to find work. Chris Kolmar's list was dated May 3. Not sure if there are flaws here, but I hope it can help. Here is what they came up with:

  1. Marbleton
  2. Green River
  3. North Rock Springs
  4. Thermopolis
  5. Cody

They factored 600 towns with 1,000 people or more for the following:

  1. Unemployment rate
  2. Recent job growth
  3. Future job growth
  4. Sales tax
  5. Median household income

Sources of criteria include the the BLS and Sperling’s Best Places.”

They say Marbleton is the best in Wyoming for work and is "one of the best places in the entire country" for job opportunity because of a ridiculously low unemployment rate combined with the highest recent job growth and prospects for future job growth. Of course that would change if every unemployed person moved there.
